Shugborough Hall - Great Haywood Staffordshire

Image
These photographs are taken at Shugborough Hall near Great Haywood in Staffordshire. The Hall is well worth a visit as it tells the story of the owners, the Anson Family.  In particular it tells the life of the brothers George Anson and Thomas Anson .  George was a key figure in the birth of a professional Royal Navy and he became First Lord of The Admiralty.  While he was exploring the world Thomas lived at Shugborough and used his brother's income to remodel the house. The Hall was famous in the 20th century as the home of Patrick Lichfield and it has a great display about Lichfield and his photographic career. Shugborough is owned by the National Trust and you need to check the website to see when and how it is open during the Covid 19 pandemic.

Newark Air Museum

We visited here on a wet day!  We found it was a fascinating museum not just because of the aircraft but it has other interesting displays.

Wanderings in Lincoln.

Image
Covid 19 has restricted lots of photographers' ability to find new images and the title of this blog contains the word 'Wanderings' and that hasn't been possible.  However I've no excuse for not posting for too many months. The new Blogger should encourage more frequent updates. We are members of the Leica Fellowship that. under normal circumstances, meets up every spring and autumn for a weekend of trips, lectures and socialising.  We've obviously had to stop this enjoyable get together.  These are some photos from our last weekend in Lincoln. This is the Usher Gallery that, at the time we were there was under threat of closure. All Lincoln's museums and galleries are still closed. This is the Ellis Windmill that is close to the city centre. This is Brayford Pool, in the Middle Ages this was an important post. The city centre is normally a busy shopping centre.
